URBAN DEVELOPMENT BOUNDARY
How
they voted
Four of the five applications to move the urban development boundary
were denied by the Miami-Dade County Commission on Wednesday, after
a year of political fighting between camps on both side of the issue.
Only one application -- the conversion
of a former landfill annexed by the City of Hialeah into an office
park - was approved.
Here is how the votes stacked up:
Approved: The city of Hialeah's plan
for an industrial park and office space on a site that includes
a former landfill; roughly 1,100 acres between Northwest 97th Avenue
and the Turnpike.
Voting against: Commissioner Katy
Sorenson
Voting in favor: Commissioners Bruno
Barreiro, Jose ''Pepe'' Diaz, Audrey Edmonson, Carlos Gimenez, Sally
Heyman, Barbara Jordan, Joe Martinez, Dennis Moss, Dorrin Rolle,
Natacha Seijas, Rebeca Sosa, Javier Souto.
Denied:
• Doral West Commerce Park,
2.5 acres west of the Turnpike and east of Northwest 122nd Avenue
near Northwest 22nd Street.
Final vote: 13 commissioners unanimously
voted to deny.
• A Lowe's Home Centers store
on 51.7 acres near theoretical Southwest 138th Avenue and north
of the Tamiami Canal Area.
Voting against: Gimenez, Heyman,
Moss, Sorenson, Sosa.
Voting in favor: Barriero, Diaz,
Jordan, Martinez, Rolle, Seijas, Sosa, Souto.
• An office and business project
on 42 acres south of Kendall Drive, west of Southwest 167th Avenue.
Applicants are David Brown, Steven Brown and Victor Brown.
Voting against: Gimenez, Heyman,
Moss, Sorenson, Sosa, Souto.
Voting in favor: Barreiro, Diaz,
Edmonson, Jordan, Martinez, Rolle, Seijas.
• Businesses and offices on
14.7 acres southeast of Southwest 142nd Avenue and 312th Street.
Applicants are Pedro Talamas, Juan J. Valdes and Nadia A. Valdes.
Voting against: Edmonson, Gimenez,
Heyman, Martinez, Moss, Rolle, Sorenson, Sosa, Souto.
Voting in favor: Barreiro, Diaz,
Jordan, Seijas.
