Citizen's Independent
Transportation Trust passes resolution to maintain the UDB!
Recognizing the need to promote better transportation options
in Miami-Dade County, and to ensure federal funding for
transportation is not compromised by allowing sprawl beyond
our UDB, the Citizen's Independent Transportation Trust
recently agreed that Holding the Line is best for our community.
Experts in the transportation field are joining the resounding
opinion of County residents who are urging County Commissioners
to promote a better future by holding the UDB!

RESOLUTION BY THE CITIZENS' INDEPENDENT TRANSPORTATION TRUST
(CITT) RECOMMENDING THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (BCC)
MAINTAIN THE CURRENT URBAN DEVELOPMENT BOUNDARY (UDB) TO
FACILITATE FUTURE AND PRESENT MASS TRANSIT PROJECTS IN THE
EXISTING URBANIZED AREAS OF THE COUNTY AND PRESERVE MASS
TRANSIT FEDERAL APPLICATIONS AND FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
WHEREAS, the County
land planners have concluded that sufficient vacant land
exists for development for the next 15 years; and
WHEREAS, current levels of residential housing inventories
satisfy state
requirements; and
WHEREAS, the federal government considers not only local
growth management laws and land use policy, but the adherence
to such laws and the effectiveness of such land use policies
when evaluating applications for federal transportation
funding; and
WHEREAS, promoting sufficient ridership is necessary to
make local mass
transit projects cost-effective and successful in the long
term; and
WHEREAS, ensuring mass transit ridership and the success
of applications for federal funding for local transportation
projects will be best served with increased residential
growth in areas close to current or planned transit facilities
and by promoting development inside existing urbanized areas
of the County; and
WHEREAS, urban sprawl increases traffic congestion in the
outlying areas of Miami-Dade County and one of the purposes
of providing mass transit is to provide relief from such
traffic congestion; and
WHEREAS, some of the responsibilities of the CITT are to
monitor, oversee, review, audit, and investigate implementation
of transportation and transit projects funded in part or
entirely by PTP surtax proceeds; and NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITT that the CITT supports
maintaining the complete current UDB.
